Tripoli is a reddish brown wax/tallow based polishing compound, and is the first step of three steps in your polishing process.  This compound is great for removing scratches, fire scale (copper oxidation) on silver and small imperfections or pits in metal.  It is a medium cutting compound, but excellent for softer precious metals like gold and silver, or removing parting lines on base metal models.  Good also for copper, brass, bronze and precious metal clay.  Follow with White Diamond and then Red Rouge for the final finish.

Use with your prepared cotton buff at high speeds on your flex shaft.  Friction/heat is the key to good polishing.

Keeping your buffs separate when going through your polishing steps will give you polishing towards perfection.  Clean your metal in an ultrasonic or with a soft brush combined with a grease cutting cleaner.
