3M WetorDry Sanding Sheets, 600 Grit, 6-Pack
Includes 6 sheets of sanding paper - 600 grit.
Probably the most recognized of all the abrasive styles is sandpaper. For jewelry/metalsmithing applications, the most versatile is alumina oxide sandpaper, also known as WetorDry. This type of abrasive can be either loaded into a split mandrel of various grades and used to even out scratches on your surface or used by hand. We chose 3M WetorDry Sandpaper because it is simply the best and long lasting.
There are other sandpaper types, such as garnet sand, a light beige color which is used for woodworking, not metalworking. The alumina oxide in WetorDry paper is ideal for metalsmithing. When used wet, WetorDry Sandpaper is less dusty and thus safer than dry sandpaper.
To be used on a split mandrel the glue on the sandpaper must to be broken. Hold both ends of a small piece of sandpaper and drag the paper downard, abrasive side up, along a sharp 90 degree surface, either your bench or a steel bench block. This will break the glue backing and the paper will curl in the right direction. With the abrasive facing upward, load one end of the sandpaper into the mandrel. Slowly increase the speed of your flex-shaft until the paper is set into the slot and press it against the surface of your metal.
Use it flat for sanding perfect, solder-ready flat bezel edges, or bend it to make a sanding stick.
