Overview

Learn the basics of jewelry design. Through seeking inspiration in nature, magazines, photography and finished jewelry, we will create a journal and the foundation of jewelry design.

How does one start creating a piece of jewelry? Design is probably the most difficult part of the fabrication process. We will photograph the shadows of objects, helping you define edges and negative space. Pouring through magazines, we will cut out selections that pertain to rhythm, movement and abstraction. We will then frame and zoom into interesting sections of images-the beginning of editing to create compelling and work.

Finally, the best inspiration comes from nature; a walk gathering and collecting items from the ground or inspecting nature's color palette. Bring it all together with paper and colored pencils and you will have the foundation necessary for fueling your passion.
